Ligon Duncan, a former moderator of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), came to the attention of many of us on this side of the pond in 2007 when he was quoted at the start of a Christianity Today article about the ‘New Perspective’ on Paul. The quote goes, ‘new perspective theology undercuts the certainty of believers regarding the substance of the gospel message.’ I finally tracked down the source of that quote to this paper (ok, so it took me a few years!) so thought I’d share it here. I think it is one of the best contributions from the non-NPP side of the new perspective discussion I have yet read. It is particularly useful if you are still a little confused as to what all the fuss has been about over the last while between NT Wright and John Piper.
